Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from a difficult situation. Recovering is something that can be learned or is a skill that can improve with practice. Mindfulness is simply being aware of something and focusing attention on that something. Being mindful is a phrase that is used a great deal in the self-help world.

We face challenges or difficulties in life. The key is to be mindful that setbacks don’t have to define you. We can turn our struggles into dynamic opportunities to live our lives to the fullest.

ROLE MODEL OF RESILIENCE:

Elizabeth is one of the most resilient people that I know. We have been friends for over 30 years. And in those 3 three decades, she has faced challenges that quite frankly no human being should have to face. At least maybe not ALL of them in one lifetime. Each time the world has knocked her down, she has acknowledged that something kicked her in the face, Then there is some sort of homage to the disappointment.

HOMAGE TO DISAPPOINTMENT:

When we face disappointment, it can be helpful to take that difficulty and spend a few moments celebrating it. Elizabeth and I have paid homage to disappointment in many different ways. We have crafted our way through frustration. We have cried until snot was pouring from our noses. Other times there were clear liquors involved followed by dancing. Different ways to pay homage is by exercising or having a massage, or other self-care practices.

THE OTHER SIDE OF DISAPPOINTMENT:

After rolling around in disappointment, we must kick it in the face and move forward. We don’t always have to have a plan, but we have to move forward toward a goal we want to pursue. The exciting thing about the other side of disappointment is that it can be an opportunity to figure out a new purpose. Elizabeth always gets back up and reframes the disappointment and moves forward.

Being mindful of resilience will help you navigate the steps to get through disappointment quickly and back on track to success.
