Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one, or strength in the face of pain or grief.

Frighten is to make (someone) afraid.

Afraid is to feel fear or anxiety.

Fear is an emotion caused by a belief that something or someone is dangerous.

I am certain that these four words, courage, frighten, afraid, fear is common enough that most of us know what each means. But when placed in the order above, it caused me to take a moment and think about how each word’s meaning links to the next meaning.

If courage is the ability to do something that may frighten someone and to frighten is to make someone afraid, and to be afraid is to feel fear, and fear is an emotion caused by a belief. Then it is fair to say that if you change your beliefs about a fear, you will have courage?

Fearless is lacking fear.

Let’s add the definition of fearless to the conversation. If you are fearless, that means you lack fear. And previously, we said that fear is an emotion based on a belief. So if we eliminate the belief that creates the emotion of fear, are we fearless?

One more definition. Belief is an acceptance that a statement is true or something exists.

So what if, having the courage and being fearless are simply results of changing beliefs?

IS BECOMING FEARLESS THAT SIMPLE?

If so, why are so many people afraid of making their dreams come true? What can we do to become courageous and fearless in our own lives? How do we move forward without fear?

Beliefs are just acceptances of things we have been told are true. Who told us they are true? Our parents, teachers, clergy members, respected adults, and peers, etc. Where did they get these beliefs from? Other people in their life. So if we think about this in this linear fashion, some of our beliefs are from generations ago. Technically, if you can trace your lineage to the Tudor Dynasty, then you could still be operating from things that Henry VIII believed. Isn’t that interesting.

Is it safe to say that if we alter one belief today for ourselves, then in 500 years, that belief could still be revered and practiced? Wow, that is a powerful thought.

ARE THEY EVEN YOURS?

We determined that beliefs are acceptances that we are told are true, I believe that it is safe to say that many, if not all, of our beliefs, aren’t even ours? Did your brain just make a confused face? I’m going to leave that question right there for you to think about. How does that feel? Is it possible that the beliefs that we have carried for potentially hundreds of years are mostly not even ours?

Think about a belief you have that is negative. Maybe it is “life is hard” or “money is the root of evil” or “all rich people are mean”. Can you see how the beliefs you have groomed your experiences? Re-write that belief into something different that is a bit more positive. How about “life is filled with exciting experiences” or “money is the energy of abundance” or “wealth creates wonderful relationships”. How does your flipped belief make you feel?

A GIFT OF FEARLESSNESS

Becoming fearless is a process just like everything else in our lives. Sometimes, we need to listen to someone else’s story about how they became fearless. Included in this post is a conversation between Bisi MacGregor and Carl Harvey about becoming Fearless. It is an hour-long conversation between two powerful people, in exchange for your email address.

Bisi is a Fearless Coach, helping us to divorce the areas of our lives that are keeping us small and fearful. Bisi and I met as a result of a Mastermind group that we belong to. We live in the same town and have met a couple of times. She is a woman that radiates, not just beauty and confidence, but the radiance of a woman that has been at the bottom and found her way up by building the stairs to her dreams and goals. I invite you to sign up for the video and watch the conversation between Bisi and our Mentor, Carl Harvey. Her story is not very different from many of us. Her story is full of encouragement that each and every one of us can create joy in our lives.

I hope that the questions here and spending an hour with Bisi and Carl talking about how she found Fearlessness will help you think about your fear, and how to remove it from your life. Here is the link: BisiFearlessFormula
