Fear is an unpleasant emotion, but that does not necessarily mean it’s a bad emotion.  Fear isn’t always a danger sign; it can show up when we grow, dream, or do unique things.  But, if we react to fear by retreating, we can miss amazing opportunities.  We can choose to act even when we feel fear; this is courage.  But how exactly do you engage courage?  Here are seven tips for boosting your courage nad fight fear:

1.  TAKE FEAR ONE STEP AT A TIME

Building courage takes time.  So, if you feel overwhelmed by the fear of how far you have to go, focus on just taking one step.  Celebrate your step.  Then focus on taking another step.  So, each step becomes more effortless.

2.  DIFFERENTIATE

Ask yourself, “am I in danger or uncomfortable?” Because if we respond to everything with fear, then it can become challenging to react to real danger appropriately.

3.  BE OBJECTIVE ABOUT FEAR

Are you attaching other emotions to a situation that is making you feel fear?  Are you accepting the fears of others placed on you?  Do you associate yourself with people who act in courage, or run from fear?

4.  EMBRACE THE OTHER SIDE OF FEAR

Visualize what is on the other side of fear.  Allow yourself to embrace the good emotions associated with the other side. So, fuel your courage with the energy of good feelings.

5. DON’T MAKE LACK OF ACTION A HABIT

We condition ourselves with everything we do. Don’t train a lack of action, to make courage more challenging.

6.  BREATHE

It might seem like a small thing, but remembering to breathe can make a big difference.  So remember, take a few deep breaths and use that time to summon your inner strength to act with courage.

7. DON’T BE HARSH ON YOURSELF

Cut yourself some slack.  You are where you are, but you can change where you are going. So, don’t waste time beating yourself up if you’re unhappy about past decisions that led you to this moment.  But, learn but avoid ruminating.
